Repost from @maylindstromskin - seems like we didn't have VAT included in our previous international prices?? 🤔
Oh, boy. First, thank you for the outpouring of love and support that so many of you have sent to me today. I feel you with my whole heart. And for those who I’ve surprised, offended, alienated or otherwise upset: I’m truly sorry. There’s nothing fun about raising prices, and it’s worse when there’s not a full understanding of the WHY.
I’ve always done my best to be 100% transparent, so here’s more of that, for those who like numbers. Zoom, or if you want to look at this up close to grasp every little detail, type this into your browser: goo.gl/NlaiXv
Our original USA MSRP was determined by our costs to provide you the best possible experience I could imagine, the ultimate intimate service, freshest and most potent treats and truly transformative formulas - packaged in a way that makes you giddy with excitement and ready to wrap yourself up in a loving ritual. That’s my big bottom line.
The price increase added approximately 15% to this USA base price to cover at least close to the inflation rate, resulting in our new standard MSRP (see top column). From here, we did a currency conversion using the average of rates from October-December 2016, and assigned the resulting prices to each partner across the globe, by region. Some countries (most in the EU, as well as Australia) require by law that displayed pricing be VAT/local tax inclusive. So here, our partners took their base price, and added those taxes (see base MSRP for each country, and just below, the price including applicable VAT) - the same as you would pay if you were purchasing in any local shop (MSRP + tax). With some countries requiring up to a 25% VAT by law, it can be a shocker to compare side by side with the USA pricing, which does not have tax.
Additionally, several partner sites had unintentionally been improperly reflecting displayed prices - showing a list price that did not reflect the value of the base + VAT, but rather just base. The big jumps you are seeing - that’s it. We made a mistake, and fixing it to be globally consistent hurts. - 1 day ago
